ANIOS and Federnotai signed a memorandum of understanding to promote professional interpretation in notarial settings

According to the agreement, Anios and Federnotai will organize joint initiatives to promote professional sign language interpretation in notarial settings and to promote the official recognition of Italian Sign Language by the Italian Government. According to the Notarial Law, the interpreter must be "a person used to dealing with the deaf person, he/she should be able to make him/herself understood by signs and gestures,(...), he/she should not carry any personal interest in the deed". Professional sign language interpreters concretely establish a relationship with the deaf which meets the requirements of "habit of dealing" and "ability to make him/herself understood", reducing the risk to carry any personal interest in the deed, compared to the relative or the sibling of the deaf person. The interpreter can be chosen among relatives or siblings of the deaf client only if all these requirements are fulfilled, including the lack of personal interest in the deed he/she's called to interpret.
